As New Zealand’s leading disc golf course designers and installers, it was only natural that Russell “The Lion” King would select Vortica to install his pride and joy; Jardines Reserve DGC.
This course is the result of Russell’s long-term love affair; his very own Destination Course - and one with some real teeth. This stunning course has some very compelling disc golf holes which are not easy to make birdie on!
In the re-wilding Jardines Reserve, after cutting down all the pines during Covid-19 lockdown, Russell has designed a highly technical, and skill-testing 9-basket course with non-trivial elevation challenges, wide-ranging views out across Lake Wakatipu, The Remarkables mountains, and to Cecil Peak across the lake. The course asks you to balance the risk vs. reward on almost every hole, and there are plenty of bogies lurking for the unwary, or over-confident player.
Literally carving the course out of the pine-felled land, and doing massive amounts of clearing and scrub cutting, Russell’s design challenges the best arms and rewards skill, while stunning the player with spectacular views.
After just one round, you will surely want revenge on the course – a sure sign you recognised inadequacies in your own game, as you struggled to make pars.
